Sound insulation and sound absorption – equally important, but not the same
Effective noise control in mechanical engineering requires a combination of targeted sound insulation and intelligent sound absorption measures.
- Sound insulation measures prevent the propagation of sound by creating a sound barrier, e.g. by lining machine housings, hoods or partition walls with materials of high mass and density.
- Sound attenuation measures reduce the reflection of sound waves and reverberation inside the machine (housing), for example by means of sound-absorbing acoustic foams.
The combination of both methods results in a holistic noise-control solution in mechanical engineering – efficient, functional and compliant with the relevant standards.
